(16,925 posts)I lived through the Nixon thing - GAWD, I voted for him!!! (only because I bought his line that "Nam was over - he's bringing them home - HAH!).
But, I saw the light and campaigned for McGovern (see, I can pay my dues!) and followed the Nixon trials very faithfully.
And other comments throughout DU are correct - it is becoming a snowball effect - as one thing happens, it triggers 2 or more things - and it grows.
Truly - I don't see how he can survive this. The walls are crumbling and more and more "shit" is gonna' come out daily. All of the screw-ups will be discovered/announced on a logarithmic scale - soon to the point that he'll be so tied up in his lies that he'll have to come up with some "face-saving" way to get out of town.
It's scary to think what we'll have when he's gone - but getting him "gone" is job NUMBER ONE - and we'll deal with whatever after that.
All that said: there is a BIG difference: In the time of Nixon we had honorable, respectably public servants on both sides of the aisle - people who cared about the Republic, not their own personal jobs and wealth-creating situations.
This time - there's not a Republican that I can trust to do the "right thing" at this point in time.
