2. This is the so what defense that could be a defining moment in our country's future

If Trump is not impreached/convicted or forced to resign, we will have taken a big step toward the republic being autocratic. And it will be driven by the minority, by the big states with few people, because we haven't bothered to update our constitution.

This process will be a big tell from Republicans. Will they step up and draw the line or will they turn their backs?

Countries don't have true existential moments very often. We have had the civil war and world war II as our big moments. I think this could be our third one. This one is really about how we want to govern as we go forward.

A good section of the country would give up many of their civil liberties. They don't particularly care for women's rights, reproductive rights, gay rights, workers rights or even free speech. They would throw those to the curb as long as they can force their religion on everyone else and own assault weapons.

So we will see what happens.
