You’re 100% right. There are people who will go out of their way to demean you and be critical just because they can. I used to think they did it because their boss must have chewed them out that day.

For years I worked in one of the most popular seafood restaurants in the Bay Area. I and the rest of the waitpeople would make well over $100 a day just from the volume of diners. And that was back in the 1970s. Most people loved the place and had been going there for years, but every once in a while some real assholes would go.

If I ever go out to lunch or dinner with someone who can’t be bothered to even say thank you when they get their drink or food and feel entitled to be nasty I drop them. Period. Because they’ve shown me exactly what they are. They’re assholes.
