I know it sounds very childish but sometimes it works. I had a stepkid years ago even though I wasn't married to her mother and she started being so brutal with me. Calling me names, insulting me every chance she got. It was horrible and she wouldn't stop.

So one day in front of the family I dished it back out to her. I can't even remember what I said but it was an insult that I knew would hurt her feelings.

That was the end of her insulting me. I don't think she realized how hurtful she was being until I showed her.

We are friends now after all these years.
