... referencing $ from Russia and other nefarious sources may all be true. But historically campaigns can give back or donate such funding when they “realize “ where it came from and not take too much damage about it. I’m sure some are so far into it that they would be toast, but I still think that’s a secondary issue. Would their voters really be all that upset if it turns out Putin donated to republican campaigns? Most of them LIKE Putin.

But the republicans can’t make their numbers work without the base. They nurtured the trump base’s hatred for 40 years. Then trump came a long and galvanized them into his 35%. And now they’re his. Shit on trump in any way, and 35% of your voters abandon you. That makes wining a primary difficult, and a general all but impossible.

They can’t piss off the base. They NEED the base.
