School lunch angel: Another anonymous donor pays off remaining Leon County student debt

CD Davidson-Hiers, Tallahassee Democrat Published 1:26 p.m. ET Dec. 3, 2019 | Updated 3:48 p.m. ET Dec. 3, 2019

Thanks to another anonymous donor, Leon County students soon will have no lunch fee debt.

After reading a story about a $1,500 donation to the school district in the Tallahassee Democrat, a second person called district officials Tuesday morning to inquire how to pay off the remaining $2,500 balance, spokesman Chris Petley said.

The donation will be made final next week, at which point the district's lunch debt will be zero, he said.

"We continue to be thankful for the support of our community," Petley said.

According to the earlier article, "only" 10 schools do not have free lunches - that means that those average $400 a school non paid lunch fees. For that little amount, the paperwork probably costs more than dunning kids for their lunch money. Why not make all school lunches free?
