6. So nice. Long ago I went to the pound to search for our missing pet.

Not there, but she turned up at home later. In spite of my worry, for some reason I just made that special connection you describe with an older male cat who looked at me as I walked by and said hello rather mournfully. He was one of those dignified "gentleman" cats and must have had a nice home until very recently.

My husband was surprised at the new addition but mostly just happy George couldn't get pregnant. Maggie, who'd adopted us a week before she gave birth to 6 kittens, was more more than a little miffed when she got back, but she got over it.
