7. It's definitely a consideration for us.

My sister would move with us but it's our adult kids that I would miss so much. We have good friends in NZ and we know we could move to their region, but it's so very far away. With climate change, I've heard NZ will withstand the changes better than any other place. We've heard really good things about the Algarave (think that's the spelling?) region in Portugal and the other day saw a program where Italy looked very affordable. We're old and I'm partially disabled now so not good at fighting in the street.

Growing up I always admired the Germans who saw the rise of Hitler for what it was and who upended their lives and moved out of the country before the shit hit the fan. I always said I'd be like them and wouldn't get stuck in the middle of a fascist regime. It's easy to be starry eyed when not confronted with the reality, but not so easy when the reality is hitting us in the face.
