In reply to the discussion: Breakthrough: Chloroquine phosphate has shown apparent efficacy in treatment of COVID-19 [View all]indigovalley
(112 posts)There are clinical trials currently underway to determine if Chloroquine really is a drug that can fight the Conona virus. They are primarily in China, which sounds suspicious, but I don't think the doctors there would have anything to gain from lying about this med or making unsubstantiated claims. There have been previous studies showing that Chloroquine is effective in fighting the deadly SARS virus which is related to COVID19 so its possible it has a similar affect on this current virus. I think the Chinese doctors have reported what they have seen clinically but are now gather the scientific evidence needed to support their claims, sort out the various factors that may be involved, and provide data to the medical community. There may be similar studies underway here in the USA as well.
Japan also is testing drug combinations on COVID19, not Chlorquine, but anti-viral HIV medications. Its possible some of these may be proven effective also.
Like others here I take Hydroxychloroquine daily for an autoimmune disease (Lupus). I'm following this closely because if this med has a positive effect on fighting the virus that will be a huge discovery.
