(1,200 posts)My house is in Rockford 15 mins from downtown. Relatives another 15 mins plus north. Anecdotally id say conservative. If you are considering that surrounding. My husband works in GR. We often dont engage with people on politics if they start because its so conservative. My street is democratic leaning. The people in my industry, fashion who've relocated there are progressive. I just dont see or feel very progressive, as you describe it. They elected Justin Amash.
But 80% of the people i knew growing up are still conservative or have become conservative from being centrist before. I wish i thought it had changed there. Maybe the places ive lived and my industry made me ultra liberal.
Ive run into overt and veiled racism there that shocked me. Also very religious like expressing beliefs as if everyone agrees. It feels like a bubble to me, at least.
