(48,955 posts)I am going to adopt it - as it fits my father, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1985. At that point, if not detected early enough (before any spread) and fully removed there was a 7 year ave life expectancy - which was true for my father. They (Dr.s) thought they had caught it soon enough, went to operate, and found it had spread to another nodule. From that point on it all efforts were primarily to slow the progression. He was treated through the Indiana U. medical school affiliated institution (from where his son and d-i-l graduated) I don't know that he participated in tests, but I rather think he would have. 20 years later his son-in-law was diagnosed. Treatment has revolutionized in the ensuing year. 7 years out my bil (Dad's aforementioned sil) remained cancer free - and continues to do so today.
