and has not a single molecule of quinine in it. Quinine is made from the bark of cinchona trees, which are native to Peru. However, grapefruit does have some chemicals that can be dangerous when combined with some prescription drugs because they cause the body to absorb too much of the drug. Interestingly, quinine (not hydroxychloroquine, which is an artificially synthesized chemical based on the chemical structure of quinine but it is not "just quinine" ) is listed as one of these drugs that should not be taken while eating grapefruit.
