21. My parents live in The Villages.

They tell me the stores are always packed (probably because the rec centers are still closed, so there's nothing else to do but shop) and that lots of the old people refuse to wear masks, or they wear them incorrectly on purpose, to be passive-aggressive. My parents assure me they wear masks whenever they're inside a place, but they also gripe about how much they hate it. Fortunately, they're not religious and they don't drink much, so they don't hang out in churches or bars. Even so, my father gets antsy hanging around the house, so they go out just about every day to run some bullshit errand or another that they don't really need to do.

You're wrong about the population of The Villages. It was about 115,000 in 2017 according to The Villages FAQ, and it's probably more like 125,000 now.
