It's a Class AB amp, its just there's something 'special' about how it operates when IN Class A mode. It's ... you know ... gets all OPTICAL and shit!

I got another clean 125W RMS to the center and rears too (Denon 4802, with a fat Toroidal transformer in this sucker too) and a pair of 50lb JBL sealed 10" subs with 300W RMS each (if you need a sub they're on a killer deal at JBL right now, 199 each ... Studio 550P ... they're AWESOME for that price).

When I saw a Home Theater AVR that looked like THIS does inside, for just over a Benji on Craiglist, I was like ... UMMMM ... TAKE MY MONEY!!!

Yeah, you can definitely hear it a LONG way away if I crack open the window and crank it, even before the new amp
