That's where the real story lies. If one believes Flynn "lied" to Pence, they go down the rabbit hole path. But if one recognizes that Flynn had no reason to lie to Pence -- for Pence is as dirty as a pig-pen -- then they start down the correct path.

It was indeed a cover story, exactly as you say ......one created to misdirect the FBI.
