(787 posts)or the one I grew up with (I am 58). I don't like what I am seeing happening now and have worked to do what I can to fight it. I have gotten to the point I am just tired. Some might say I have given up.
I'm gay. I am married (to a man). I never thought I would be able to do that and took a lot of pride in my country for moving into modern times. When the Repugs put another illegal justice on the court and not a week later some of the other conservative justices implied they were open to overturning gay marriage we decided regardless of the President we were out. We did our research. Found a place we can retire and establish residency to, and allows gay marriage.
When I told a good friend who was straight what we were planning....she immediately called me a drama queen. Her exact quote was "You have lived your whole life not being allowed to married the guy you have been with for 30 years...why do you even care?" That's when it hit me that even my allies are buying some the conservative talking points.
All talking to "friends" has done lately for me is make me a former friend. I have agreed with my husband its time to probably retire early and find someplace that will let me establish residency. I'm off in late December to start the paperwork and start house hunting.
I plan to visit home often (Dallas....more liberal than what most on here think) but depending on how things go in the State I may be not be home as much as I planned.
I am on this site everyday and don't post often and thank most of you for keeping me sane. That won't change. I am still looking forward to a President Biden.
