(672 posts)Until four years ago I had no problem believing in the separation of powers and in the separation of church state. After Watergate, I thought that either political party would turn against elected officials whose criminal actions were exposed. Even with George Bush the Lesser's elections, the middle east wars, the great recession and then Obama's amazing presidency, I believed we had common foundations and simply differences in opinions on how to best advance our country.
Now I see the critical flaws both built into the original foundations of the countries and how greed for power has twisted those foundations for the advantage of a few. I always knew there was a portion of the population that advanced a very restrictive Christian view that was but I never thought this country would tilt toward an autocracy by the minority. Our country has a long tradition of political parties fooling a segment of the population to support them even when it was not in those voters' best interests. But I never envisioned a political party so completely abandoning their symbolism and platforms. Or that they would nakedly expose that their only interest is achieving and maintaining power.
What is being advanced today is a complete reinterpretation and twisting of the fundamental foundations of this country from a limited democracy to an autocracy supported by Christian extremists, Conservative nationalism, racism and the rich. Only supporters of the autocracy are important and the rest are to be marginalized, starved of resources, and denied any voice. Right no longer makes might and the rest of the world can go to hell as long as we continue to get what we want. This country will continue to decline as the rights of the privileged few are forced on the rest.
