... it's been a long while since there were 2 parties, each with their own approach on how to provide good government for people ....

... not a historic scholar, but things eroded beyond the pale with Reagan being allowed to escape with the Iran-Contra: although Nixon was a piece of work; he at least understood the entire picture and we can thank him for the EPA. Newt found the bits of foul material and tossed it into the well of public discourse, and once Citizens United came -- well -- game over. (hmm, poor choice of words I guess because government shouldn't be a game)
