(81,220 posts)When I worked at NBC Radio, hed show up regularly on the third floor where the network news ops were based.
Above the waist: nice clean ironed white shirt and necktie. And proper, well-fitting suit jacket. And perfect hair.
Below the waist: rumpled shorts, ratty sneakers and socks, and lots of hairy leg. Because when he did his standup, he was always shot close-up, maybe at most, from mid-chest-level, OR seated behind an anchor desk.
Sometimes David Letterman would wander in, to voice a regular feature for the radio network. Hell, he didnt even bother to tidy up above the waist. Old baggy sweat pants and sweat shirt with a - um - relaxed neckline, and hair that hadnt seen a comb for what looked like several days. He ALWAYS looked like hed just rolled (not climbed, ROLLED) out of bed. What you could get away with, if you were on the radio!
