(7,876 posts)I'll believe those agencies are serious when they arrest all the "boys" they way they have people on "our" side of the equation who were peacefully and legally protesting.
When the streets where they walk, drink, and threaten are filled with police in riot gear, carrying blank warrants and batons, as "officers" did in Portland.
When I see their leaders and speakers sitting in the dock awaiting bail. When their gatherings are over-run and dispersed by police vehicles. Then I will say the authorities take the threat seriously.
Until then anything can and sadly probably will happen with little if any interference by police and other authorities. IMO those institutions are waiting to see blood on the streets before they act, and like as not making side bets on how many civilians the "boys" will hurt.
I have seen these people in person when I lived in NC. They are not shy about attacking when they think police will hold back. Police seem to have the idea that this is basically 2 street gangs fighting over turf. They'd rather not get involved and possibly get hurt themselves. Instead they'll allow a certain degree of confrontation to escalate into physical violence so they can arrest people from both groups and so appear to be intolerant of either group.
