36. Not snarky at all. It could also be a regional thing. I agree that it should at least BE illegal.

 

But I'm not sure WalMart gives a shit about laws anymore. And yes, you can get away with such things by calling departments "divisions". That's an old DOD trick (I mean old) to get around security restrictions. You can have a clearance in one "division" of Lockheed but not in another, but spend all of your time in the restricted area. Hell, most of what I did between '82 and '85 was NASA work, but I was often cross-billed to FAA contracts (and never did a minute of work on any of those contracts). Since I was salaried, it was just a timesheet issue in that job (bean counter shit), but they still threw hourly workers around from contract to contract (but that company did NOT do it to avoid benefits).

I'm glad you had a good career there. You're only the second person I've known who could claim that. My buddy who's the paint department manager is still hourly. Getting a salaried position at that level is a challenge now, if it's still possible. Retail's always been sort of brutal, but it seems to be getting worse no matter where you work. I miss Ames and Jamesway.
