(25,699 posts)I can't say whether the people doing so are themselves racists, but the mere fact he has to do twice the work to get half the credit is a simple outgrowth of how black people in America are treated. So too the fact that he gets all the blame for failure, and only partial credit (if that) for success.
As for legitimate criticisms? I love that it's never specified what they are. It's some hazy cloud of "I'm justified in being a negative ass, because i'm justified" Okay, he's a centrist? So was Clinton. So was Carter. So was Johnson, so are most presidents in the nation's history, it comes with the job. Drone strikes? No different than what Clinton was doing in the firmer Yugoslav states and Sudan, except for where the pilot is sitting. There are few, if any legitimate criticisms that stem from President Obama, rather than from the office of the presidency itself. That is, there's plenty of policy to criticize, but it's fucking dumb to pretend it's all Obama's fault.
Now on hte other hand, the Affordable Care Act? End of DADT, and subsequent endorsement of equal rights to gay people? Ending the war in Iraq, setting a deadline for Afghanistan? The most equitable treatment of our native peoples since the founding of the republic (still not great, sure, but still, big improvement)? Pulling the US back from its status as a rogue state? Wrangling the recession into docility and saving the auto industry? No fucking credit at all. It's either flash-in-the-pan and vanishes in two days, or the credit is given to someone else.
if you think the first black man to hold office as president of the United States is getting fair and even treatment, even from his "supporters," I'm sorry, you're deluded.
