Wasn't there a report that T45 had requested ten or twelve thousand troops and the DOD slow walked it. They had a clear idea it was going to run out of momentum by happy hour time and troops would have aided T45's goal to declare martial law. So maybe this time they may have done ok, in hind sight.
I am in favor for DC becoming a state w a governor and a clear National Guard force w/o political appointees in the chain of command.
I am also in favor of investigating this issue of security being deployed to them selves before they moved to protect the civilian political chain of command, Pence, Pelosi and whomever in that line of succession was in danger.
