(3,437 posts)1. Place: West side of Houston, TX. Date: summer of 1987. Time: Unknown, except that it was after sundown, with the sky mostly dark and a fading pale glow in the west. I was driving my car with my 12 year old daughter in the front passenger seat. She suddenly screams, "Mom, there's a UFO!". I pulled over and got out of the car so I could see it. It was a large, cylindrical object that looked fairly close to the ground, maybe 500 to 1000 ft. up. It had lights on it. It took me about 10 seconds to recognize what it was. I stuck my head back in the window and said, "Honey, that's the Goodyear Blimp.".
2. Place: Rural Texas, campout with friends. Date: Summer of 2010. Time: Unknown, at least midnight or later, pitch dark clear skies with a myriad of stars everywhere. Since it was a clear night and quite warm (maybe low 90's F), I decided to sleep out of the tent under the stars. I'm familiar with the constellations, as amateur astronomy is one of my interests, and I was trying to see what was the faintest stars I could see with the naked eye. A moving point of light soon caught my attention. I am also familiar with spotting man-made satellites in the night sky. A good place to find out what is in your area, including the ISS, is heavens-above.com. This object was different. It did not maintain a direct flight path, but kind of meandered around, moving rather quickly. Satellites don't do that. I have no clue what it was. Truly a UFO.
