And of course I don't remember WHERE I saw it, so I can't provide a link.
But the article did say that the folks at Hobby Lobby took the quotes from Washington and Adams out of context. In the case of Adams, he was talking about morals and religion--saying that one or the other would be needed for a successful country. He did not say religion only.
I have noticed with white evangelicals that they tend to take bible verses out of context or invent their own because ... why not? Most white evangelicals don't actually read the bible they claim to believe in. Why not take the founding fathers out of context?
