The two people don't ever have to have met, air does not have to be crossing the hallway. If the housekeeper went from one room the next they could easily have caused a large number of deposits to be transferred.
One reason I'm still not ready to go to any hotel.
The pillow would seem be a perfect vector for transmission between guests.

I've always understood it as even if vaxxed you can still get covid, just not serious enough

It's way too early to know mortality. At least one vaccinated person in Hong Kong is asymptomatic .
