but not quite so colorfully.

He told people that those who pray openly in public to demonstrate how pious they are have their own ostentatious behavior as a reward. He said that God prefers the sincerity of private prayer. Then he taught people how to pray in words that became the Lord's Prayer, which is often recited in public.
