Its a remake no one was particularly clamoring for. People are perfectly content to make do with the original until the update is available on streaming.
It also relies heavily on Boomer nostalgia, I.e. the people most reluctant to go out to theaters right now.
Spider-Man was an event film. With so many spoilers and developments happening, people were very eager to get out to see it. I saw it last week. Its great.
And not only because Marvel. Shang Chi did ok and Eternals did not do well at all. Spider-Man NWH was the culmination of twenty years of films.
People really, really wanted to see it.
