(10,749 posts)After WWII, the world proclaimed, "Never Again."
Although Never Again largely refers to the Holocaust, Zelenskyy is right. The Russians are bombing Babyn Yar, the site of the murders of more than 100,000 innocents, including Jews, Ukrainians, Russians, Gypsies, and so many more. Putin is desecrating a spot where his fellow Russians were murdered by soldiers of the Third Reich.
We are relieved to see European countries providing weapons and aircraft. Unfortunately, we all realize the implications if the US and other nations decide to expand their support/involvement. Ukraine is not a NATO country, Russia has put its nuclear forces on alert, etc. Notwithstanding widespread moral and financial support in the US for Ukraine, I don't think the US has the stomach for another US military entanglement, however noble. (And then are the political implications.) But if all we do is stand by to await the outcome, then we have to admit that Never Again was only a slogan. When Never Again should have been a century-long rallying cry, it may turn out to have been a meaningless feel-good trope.
