(9 posts)As a Canadian, I have to admit it is heart-sickening to watch the racism get worse as a result of an African-American president, although I am hoping (deluding myself?) that if he weren't perceived as a real threat to the plutocrats they wouldn't be so extreme and vitriolic. Doesn't make it less than a battle against $$ giants...
Quick anecdote--once had a relative of a friend visiting with her--he is from Texas. He told me that we (canadians) have 'a different kind of black person up here'. I cannot tell you my shock. All I could think to reply was 'well maybe we treat 'them' differently 'up here'!?'
Trying to be optimistic here--Mitt Romney being so outrageously awful as a candidate, I can only hope that this continues to create a huge counter-force. Especially to those threatening to 'take it to the streets'. (What century are they living in!?)
Every day I worry that someone will cause Obama harm. And, I wish I could vote there!
