(23,747 posts)Too much secrecy, too much money, too much 'gee whiz' technology at work here. So, in short, there is something going on here. A whole Industrial Complex and all of its workings, scattered through the U.S. and the world at many different places (secret and some not so secret). And I suspect that you're right, this is an excuse for using unlimited power reined in by those in the political realm to have some sort of control on this area (what control do we really have today? It's all covered by the guise of 'national security', so who really knows anything about what's going on, what's being spent in these 'black' projects, etc.?
Now, I'm not advocating the breaking of any secrets etc., we don't need to give our adversaries any heads up. But what really gets me thinking is that over the last 10 years or so, several countries have moved to reveal what they know about these things. Anyone w/ a smidgen of intelligence can gain insight into what technologies would be needed to develop and / or operate such craft, such as inertia drive, unlimited power of some kind (atomic or the like, such as those on subs today (but smaller in size)), and materials that are able to withstand the sheering forces enacted upon such materials when the craft perform tight turns/stop on a dime/etc.
By the way, one of my best friends who worked at McDonald Douglas told me (at least 20 years ago or so, probably longer) of their already developing helmets for the pilots of aircraft to use in guiding their craft, etc., he said that they used eye movement but I don't recall if they used thought too, I would tend to remember something like this. I just recall him being so upset when he had to pick and chose which people to fire when they had a downsizing. It tore him to pieces. That's why if you get people under you (they're working for you), I hope that you don't have to go through this process of firing people (and not firing them for cause, it simply was that the business (that part of the business) was going away/being shut down (and of course, they never have enough slots elsewhere to move everybody)).
