you are exactly right. Things were not bright and sunny back in 1962.

50 years ago, women had no choice in much of anything: they couldn't get their own credit; they couldn't take out their own loans without their husband or a man co-signing; they could be beaten within an inch of their lives by their husbands and the state would not intervene.

I believe that socially as far as women were concerned, 50 years ago, things were not great for women.

As far as minorities were concerned, 50 years ago was just the start of some change... it wasn't "Happy Days" for a whole lot of citizens of this country.
