in the 60s, I had to regularly monitor a litmus type coloration through a tiny view window on the tip of a Mk 45 nuclear tipped torpedo, and visually ensure the monitoring cable to the warhead was secure. Only a few fast attacks were underway yet, so we piggies filled the gap playing chicken of the sea with Khrushchev’s noisy subs.

Individually, each of us were interviewed by the program you speak of before they would load a Mk 45.

The important part I remember the most, is the part where my crew mate (friend) I was on watch with, had instructions to unholster his .45 and shoot me down if I go touching and tampering with any electronic connections in an attempt to disable the fish.

Nuke secrecy and security back then was a BFD, as it should be now.
