As for selling our homes, most people's biggest personal asset and assumed safety net, we need to wonder now what would happen to housing prices in the kind of failing society and economies that come with what we're talking about.
Add in mega losses from unmet climate challenges and disasters. Also perhaps from "privatization" of the Social Security fund into the pockets of a few. Increased death rates from ending/severely cutting back subsidization of healthcare. All creating fewer buyers.
Many homes in many areas would be effectively unsellable for lack of demand. It seems likely that it'd become common for their owners' kids to ask not to be left them in their wills.
I'm your age, and except for concern for family (a big one!), I'm thinking it might be the best age to stay and fight. Tired as the mere thought makes me, in any future we'll die but only die once.
