He was the world's longest-reigning monarch when he died in October 2016. His reign lasted 70 years and 126 days. He is now third on that list, behind Louis XIV and Elizabeth II (he was Rama IX). I spent some time in Thailand during his reign. The Thai people revered him, and I won't say he didn't deserve the adoration. I never heard a bad word about the man and I have no doubt he was a good guy. He was born in Boston, which I suppose means he was technically a native-born U.S. citizen. I've always admired Queen Elizabeth II too. Bless her heart. All my life she's been "the Queen" and in a sense I've always considered her our Queen too. We're still "the Colonies" after all. Now that we don't have a Queen any more I find that I'm suddenly feeling as if there's something wrong. Just wrong. Hard to describe, but that's the weird way I'm feeling.
