14. "controlling"... My cousin worked in a bank.

I remember a customer I had not long before I retired. She was an older lady, in her 80's, and very much a Republican supporter. She had a lot of trouble with her checking account, and I often helped her balance her checkbook. I noticed that she had made out checks to many Republican political organizations month after month! She said they needed the money or they wouldn't have sent her a letter in the mail. I tried to explain to her that her $10 (or $20 or whatever) check wasn't going to make a difference in their "campaign". I finally asked her to bring me the latest mail she'd received before sending any more checks. She brought in a stack of around 25 envelopes, only two of which were for utility bills. The rest were political "send me money!" letters. She already had checks made out to them. We had a very long talk, and she finally allowed me to destroy all the political letters and the checks she'd made out. I'd like to think she finally realized how much money she was "spending" for no gain. It was a very sad case of how these often fraudulent organizations can brainwash people into sending money to not necessarily legitimate organizations.
