(1,523 posts)I am retired in a rural, red VA county that votes Republican from 65-35 to 70-30. One local guy rented a 40-passenger luxury coach to take himself and his friends to the Jan 6 rally -- tickets sold out, he had to lay on a second bus. Yard signs for Democratic candidates -- national, state, or local -- are habitually stolen defaced, or shot full of holes. Bumper stickers that identify you as a Democrat will get you tailgated; pass you, whip in front of you and slam on their brakes; confronted in the grocery store parking lot.. I've identified eight Proud Boys, III percenters, and Oath Keepers from their trucks (black, jacked up, loud exhaust, lots of decals on rear window), their open carry pistols, and their dress.
Because of the Democratic bumper stickers on my truck, I had pistol pointed at me one time -- at the local dump -- guy pulled a pistol, shouted "All you %$#^&&% Democrats should be shot." -- I responded by pulling my pistol, told him if he pointed a firearm at me, I would kill him on the spot. That was during the 2016 campaign. None of these assholes bother me; sheriff told me the word got around to not fuck with the old guy in the old Ford truck -- the one with the Vietnam Vet, Airborne, Ranger, Special Forces decals. I carry a pistol in all of my vehicles; my daily driver old f-250 has pistol, AR-15, and shotgun, unloaded but lots of loaded magazines and ammo at hand.
Several of my old retired Democrat friends are as heavily armed as I am, including several of the democratic ladies.
We Democrats are too damn nice.
