But if 20 people voted for Donalds and 20 people voted for Jordan, it becomes very possible for Dems voting present to get Jeffries the majority. Seems like the R's aren't as stupid as they seem.

I heard this discussed SCantiGOP Jan 2023 #1
So then they need to do that, I guess. Cuthbert Allgood Jan 2023 #7
I don't disagree SCantiGOP Jan 2023 #21
He'd need 218 votes for a majority in the House. Cattledog Jan 2023 #2
Not if people don't vote. Cuthbert Allgood Jan 2023 #8
You'd need R's not to vote to decrease the denominator in the right way. The D's all need to vote. Trumpdumper Jan 2023 #3
Not true. Cuthbert Allgood Jan 2023 #9
The math is the same, there are still 212 Democratic votes tritsofme Jan 2023 #14
The votes for McCarthy was only split with Donalds. Had it been split more Cuthbert Allgood Jan 2023 #15
It doesn't matter if Republicans split down the middle, the math doesn't change. tritsofme Jan 2023 #18
218 to win. We do not have 218 in any way shape or form. ZonkerHarris Jan 2023 #4
Majority of votes cast to win. Not 218. Cuthbert Allgood Jan 2023 #10
All Dems would need to vote for Jeffries. It would require some R's voting Present. LiberalFighter Jan 2023 #5
Nope. Think about the math for a second. A vote for Jeffries adds one to the numerator and RockRaven Jan 2023 #6
He needs the majority of the votes cast, not a hard 218. Cuthbert Allgood Jan 2023 #11
He'd need the Rs not to vote. Voting for other people doesn't help Orangepeel Jan 2023 #12
I get that's what they want, but if my math is correct, we would need 20 no votes Cuthbert Allgood Jan 2023 #13
The OP asked about *Democrats* abstaining from voting, that is what my answer addresses. RockRaven Jan 2023 #20

Pretty sure the same people who voted for Donalds onenote Jan 2023 #19
