If the documents had been planted, would it not make sense for Biden to assert as much and provide whatever evidence he has? He hasn't done so, though, so either he doesn't believe they were planted or he has no evidence that they were. And he likely has no evidence that they were planted because they weren't.

The far more likely explanation is that the documents were overlooked and were there the entire time until discovered. It was, to put it bluntly, a mistake. Anyone can make a mistake, but how a person responds to a mistake demonstrates their character (or lack thereof). Biden will handle the mistake with dignity and grace, whereas Trump will be himself and I really needn't expand on what that means. Trump's possession of the documents wasn't a mistake in the first place, anyway.

The two situations are apples and oranges.
