In reply to the discussion: Ron DeSantis' plan to take control of Disney's land backfired spectacularly [View all]Caliman73
(11,767 posts)DeSantis is likely not doing any of this for actual policy effects. He doesn't really seem to care about actual policies. He is doing it for the spectacle of "looking tough". He wants to run for president under the auspices of "I'm the one who actually gets things done" to try to differentiate himself from Trump. Now, scratch the surface and you see that most of what he has proposed has been denied in court. He is pretty stupid policy wise, but again, not about policy... about image. When you ask the "base" what do they like about DeSantis, they will typically say, "he's fighting against the woke mob". When you ask them what he has actually accomplished, they can't tell you. They don't know and likely don't care. Same concept as when they said, "Trump keeps his promises" but couldn't tell you ANY policy that Trump actually instituted that aligned with any campaign promise.
DeSantis, in my opinion, will eventually decide not to run or he will lose the primary. He isn't really as adept a politician as people think. He just has an easily fooled base and a relatively docile and dumb population in Florida (no offense to any Florida Democrats), that put up with him.
It is MUCH harder to be a Democratic politician because while we can still "fanboy" at times, we actually expect our people to do what they say they will. We remember what our representatives said and we hold them accountable. Spectacle is not good enough for us. We want actual policy that will make our lives better.
