General Discussion
In reply to the discussion: I want to leave Florida. It ain't that easy [View all]I've had to move three different times due to corporate relocations. Three different states. When I was very young with elementary aged children I can remember being so afraid to move away from my entire family and lifelong friends. I made all the excuses some of the posters on here are making. I worried needlessly about if my children would "adjust". Went from the north to the south - an entirely different culture. I'd never even travelled much at that time. Looking back I laugh at my younger self and how sheltered my life was until that first move from one state to another.
Yes, it can be stressful but I always went into it with the idea that I had to show my kids how to be flexible and how to handle change. They both did amazingly well. I worried for nothing. They are middle aged now and both of them have told me many times how glad they were that they lived in different places - that they learned how to make new friends, try new things, travelled places they wouldn't have if we would have stayed put.
Once you get to be our age you can look back and see that being flexible and able to handle major change will do you well when you approach your senior years.
