(54,365 posts)I remember very well. I was leaving a place I didnt like (Frank Rizzos Philadelphia) and headed for a place where I knew almost no one. And even then, at least it was for a job I wanted, paid well, and promised a lot of travel. This was 1975, and I still work for the same outfit.
It was far more unsettling than moving here to Europe, where I still had my job, had my European wife to live with, and already knew lots of people. Plus, by the time I moved here, I spoke nine European languages. The paperwork and the bureaucracy were the obstacles, not uncertainty or unfamiliarity.
Anyone who tells you, well, why dont you just move? probably has never had to delve into the issue in depth. No one who is established in the place they live, even if they want out, just moves.
