2. Regarding pilots...

You might get into flight training due to DEI (don't know if that's true or not) or because your uncle owns the flight school, but whether you get licensed and move up the food chain to a commercial carrier is determined by how well you perform on the FAA tests and especially what the check-ride pilots think of you as a whole person. Good test results may not compensate for impatience, impulsive actions, questionable judgement and not "keeping up with the airplane" when flying.
