amounts of stress, in addition to jet lag and overscheduling, both the unavoidable work as president and the debate prep team trying to get him to do what amounted to cramming for a test whenever there was a spare moment.

I wouldn't expect even a 20something to handle that level of work + jet lag + stress at all well.
