(13,273 posts)In the very first question she had a great opportunity to extoll the economic achievements of the Biden/Harris administration, citing facts to bolster they exceeded all expectations. Even Fox News had to admit at one point the economy was doing well. She could have pointed out that post pandemic inflation was global, with the US doing better than other Western economies. Also that inflation is coming down, and this Democratic administration is going after price gougers.
The speech Kamala gave was excellent but didn't really answer the question that was asked, and she gave the appearance of distancing herself from President Biden's record.
Had VP Harris established their strong economic record from the start, the extremely false economic narrative repeatedly spewed by her opponent would have gained less traction with low information voters who might still be on the fence.
I would also liked to have seen Kamala do more to dispell the constantly repeatedly lies that countries south of our border are sending millions of people from their prisons and insane asylums who are causing crimes in the US to skyrocket "like nothing we've ever seen before."
I know it's impossible and not a good strategy to try to contend with every lie in a gish gallop, but that one is his biggest and perhaps most effective attack. It wouldn't take long to cite the actual number of undocumented immigrants but also thr fact that they are an integral part of our economy and they commit fewer crimes per capita than native born Americans.
