7. Conversations like this are so important.

Some Trump voters--too many--are irredeemable. But there are others, like your neighbor, whose major news source is pro-Trump, and who have concerns that I can understand, even if I don't agree with them. (I can see why someone who didn't go to college because he couldn't afford it would be unhappy about forgiving student loans.)

If we don't listen, we can't learn what it might take to build a larger Democratic base. And if we assume all Trump supporters are evil idiots, we're carrying a lot of unwarranted hatred and missing out on getting to know some decent people who have beliefs we disagree with, but whose values may be more aligned with ours than we realize.
