Federal prosecutors in New York charged Adams with bribery, wire fraud, and seeking illegal campaign donations in an indictment unsealed Thursday — a lengthy list of accusations that grew out of what prosecutors called “corrupt relationships” with rich foreigners. An indictment is a document approved by a grand jury that formally spells out a charge or charges against someone before they can be prosecuted.

Reports that an indictment was coming emerged as investigations have intensified around the Adams administration in recent months. Allies had their phones seized and homes searched, and several have resigned.

Although he is a Democrat, his term is not up until Nov 2025. I would think the guidelines would recommend not filing charges within 90 days of an election, but he isn't on the ballot. I don't know if guidelines apply to mayoral races.
