Notes:
2000 and 2004: Early voting was lower and leaned Republican in most places.
2008 and 2012: Early voting increased dramatically, with Democrats taking the lead, thanks to Obama’s campaign efforts.
2016: Early voting became more evenly split, with Republicans catching up, especially in swing states.
