8. Back in the 90's

I worked at a very large public hospital in Texas. One payday our checks were short. They told us that all rn's were considered management. We were paid nothing for the first hour over our shift that we worked, and we were only paid straight time for any hours over 80 in 2 weeks. This went on for a decade. The labor department did nothing. A few nurses finally found a law firm that sued, but they lost the suit.
I talked to Texas born nurses (obviously a great percentage of the nurses were on work visas) about a union. Even though we were being stolen from on literally every paycheck they would only say how bad unions were.

Before anyone says "You should just have quit", I'm gay and I have Asperger's. I had already been fired from two jobs when they found out that I was gay. It was not easy to find jobs in Texas and even more difficult to keep them. And also it was theft. Should a thief be forced to follow the law and not steal, or should they be allowed to steal if they can get away with it because they steal from those who are powerless.
