Aides reveal gullible Tulsi Gabbard fell for Russian propaganda [View all]
Tulsi Gabbard, the onetime Democrat who is Donald Trumps pick to be the countrys next director of national intelligence, was a faithful consumer of Kremlin-controlled media, three of her former congressional aides told ABC News.
According to ABCs report, the aides said that the failed presidential candidate regularly read and shared stories from RTa state-run media outlet formerly known as Russia Todayeven after being told that it wasnt a credible news source. Gabbards former staffers suggested that they didnt buy some claims from Democrats that their former boss is a Russian asset. But they do believe shes become a staunch advocate for one of the United States chief adversaries thanks to her routine consumption of pro-Russia propaganda.
Its unclear just how much consuming news from these outlets shaped Gabbards worldview. In fact, her former aides said that Gabbard read news from a plethora of outlets, ranging from stories peddled by far left factions to articles from extreme-right sources. But Gabbards views on Russian aggression in Europe, specifically, have become increasingly eyebrow-raising since her days as a Democratic House member representing Hawaii.
The aides provided ABC News with an internal memo that Gabbard sent to staff in 2017, for instance, which showed her extending unwarranted sympathy to the Kremlin. Among many other damning things, the former Bernie Sanders loyalist-turned-MAGA apologist complained about the United States hostility toward Putin and bemoaned the fact that there isnt any guarantee to Put that we wont try to overthrow Russias government.

100 National Security Officials Sign Letter Demanding Closed Door Hearings on Tulsi Gabbard
Donald Trump's nomination of Tulsi Gabbard to lead the U.S. intelligence community has caused alarm, with nearly 100 national security officials penning an open letter to Senators John Thune and Chuck Schumer asking for closed door hearings for senators to receive briefings on Trump's controversial pick.
If appointed to the office of Director of National Intelligence, Gabbard would oversee 18 agencies, including the CIA, FBI, and NSA, and would have tremendous influence interpreting and relaying the highest level of classified material to the president.
The letter urges Thune and Schumer, the new Senate Majority and Minority Leaders respectively, to allow senators to review "all information available to the U.S. government" on Gabbard prior to holding her confirmation vote. The letter cites Gabbard's "sympathy for dictators like Vladimir Putin and Assad" and raises questions about her "judgement and fitness."
"Several of Ms. Gabbard's past actions call into question her ability to deliver unbiased intelligence briefings to the President, Congress, and to the entire national security apparatus," the letter reads. "Following her trip to Syria, for example, Ms. Gabbard aligned herself with Russian and Syrian officials."
